New Delhi: As the days of assembly elections are coming closer, the prime issue of the sharing of waters of the Cauvery River has again started mounting the dispute between two states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu. The Centre and Tamilnadu have moved to the apex court regarding the issue of constitution of Cauvery Management board.

The Centre, in its move, asked for three-month time for implementing the scheme, due to upcoming Karnataka assembly polls in the month of May. On the other side, the state government sought for an action against the government for failing to frame the scheme for the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee within six weeks ordered by the apex court on February 16.

On February 16 of this year, the Supreme Court directed the central government to constitute Cauvery Management Board (CMB) within six weeks however the deadline has expired on Thursday with no efforts done by the government in framing the scheme for constituting the committee.

Reportedly, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will organize hunger strikes across Tamil Nadu on April 3.
