Ball-tampering case: CA bans Smith, Warner for 12 months

New Delhi: In what could be the biggest setback to the cricket world happened when two top Australian cricketer David Warner and Steven Smith had been found guilty in the ball tampering case took place during the ongoing Test series against South Africa in Cape Town.

With Cameron Bancroft, the third accused in the ball tampering scandal, was suspended for 9 months while the then captain Steven Smith and Vice-captain David Warner were handed one -year ban by Cricket Austraila (CA).

The incident came into limelight after Bancroft was caught rubbing the ball with some yellow object on the television and later seen hiding that object inside his trousers. Reportedly, Warner and Smith had directed Bancroft to scratch the ball with the sandpaper.

Following the fiasco, both Warner and Smith were stepped down as captain of Sunrise Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals and even opted out from the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

In a press conference held lately over the ball-tampering scandal, Smith broke down in front of media and regretted of what he had done with an apology for not doing it in the future again. On the other hand, Warner felt the same and stated that “it is something I will regret as long as I live”.

Along with the suspension of Smith, Warner and Bancroft, team coach Darren Lehmann will resign post forth test against Australia.
